Colonization

Colonization Procedures
As soon as the invitation to colonize is accepted, our colony recruitment efforts will begin with a PR campaign to let everyone know Alpha Xi Delta is the newest member of your Greek community. A team of experienced national volunteers will develop and oversee the colony recruitment process, an Educational Leadership Consultant will be based on campus to execute the process and local alumnae will initiate one-on-one, personal contact with women who have been recommended to us by campus stakeholders and our alumnae.

Once the public relations and recruitment phases are complete, we’ll hold a member selection process that’s similar to formal recruitment. Potential new members will learn more about Alpha Xi Delta, participate in individual interviews with national representatives to clarify expectations, and participate in a ceremony hosted by members of a nearby chapter to get a feel for our Sisterhood.

Alpha Xi Delta’s Colony Development Program
Alpha Xi Delta colonies develop through a three-stage process leading up to installation.

Stage One: Once recruited, colony members get to know each other and create strong friendships that will serve as the foundation for the colony before and after installation.

Stage Two: Members develop the colony’s governing documents, which include chapter bylaws, a code of conduct, a merit system, an academic achievement program, a budget and a member recruitment plan.

Stage Three: Each colony officer has a one-on-one training session with one of our Educational Leadership Consultants. The Executive Committee has a retreat designed specifically for them to further strengthen relationships and set goals for the year.
Our College Chapter Annual Progress Report (APR) will serve as a guide for the colony as members grow in their understanding of how to become a successful college chapter. The APR outlines specific paths to success in 14 areas of chapter life.

Public Relations and Marketing
As with all our new chapters, we provide marketing support prior to and during colonization and recruitment. Our Communications and Marketing Department creates and implements the following marketing activities: placing campus newspaper ads; writing press releases; hosting and promoting meet and greet events; distributing yard signs to other Greek groups; distributing flyers; creating Facebook groups and ads; implementing an up-to-date chapter specific website; and any other promotional opportunities made available on campus.

Samples of PR Materials
Take a look at some of the marketing materials Alpha Xi Delta has created for recent new chapters! We create a website for all new chapters and could also design a handout and signs for publicizing Alpha Xi Delta efforts on campus. These are examples from our colonizations at the University of Illinois and San Jose State University.
